They are great for certain sections of through hikes where you end up sleeping in designated areas, or any well developed campsites that you may end up staying at while using a non-freestanding or semi-freestanding tent! 

The spring design keeps them secure between boards unlike some of the even lighter weight options out there, while still weighing only 16g, which is comparable to most ultralight aluminum tent stakes!
